Walk up to any vape counter and you'll see numbers everywhere - 2,500, 25K, 60K, even 100K puffs. Bigger sounds better, but it isn't always the right buy. This guide explains what those numbers actually mean, how the different styles of disposable work, and which ones make sense for how you vape.
It's written for adults 19+ who already vape and want to pick a disposable in Vancouver without guessing.
What the puff count really tells you
The puff count on the box is a lab estimate based on short, even draws. Real life is different. Long pulls, chain vaping or running a device in boost mode all use up e-liquid faster, so treat the number as a size class rather than a promise.
A more useful way to think about it is how long one device lasts you. Someone who vapes now and then might get a week or more from a 2,500-puff device. A heavier user might get through the same thing in a couple of days and be better off with something in the 25K range or above.
Nicotine strength
Most disposables use nicotine salt at 20 mg/mL, the highest strength allowed in Canada. Nicotine salt feels smoother on the throat than freebase e-liquid at the same strength, which is why disposables can hit hard without feeling harsh. If you want less nicotine overall, a smaller device you finish less often is one simple way to cut back on how much you take in.
The four sizes of disposable
Small and simple (under 5,000 puffs)
Slim, light and pocket-friendly. Most are draw-activated with no buttons, so you just open and vape. Good for trying a new flavour, for light users, or as a backup when your main device dies.
Picks: Allo Ultra 500, Elf Bar Prime 1800, Fog Series 16, O2 2500, Vfeel Nex 2500 and Hi5 Prime 3500.
Everyday mid-size (6,000 to 15,000 puffs)
The sweet spot for a lot of people. Still compact, but they last long enough that you're not buying a new one every few days. Many in this range are rechargeable, so check the pack and keep a USB-C cable handy.
Picks: VFEEL V1 6000, Pop Palm 7000, Vfeel KBAR 7500, Beco Slim 10K, Elf Bar AF12000 and Friobar Strom 15K.
High-capacity (18,000 to 35,000 puffs)
Bigger batteries, screens that show battery and e-liquid levels, and often a boost or eco mode. Some use a small device plus a refill container instead of one sealed body. The Flavour Beast Hydra 18K, for example, pairs a 2 mL device with a 13 mL refill container, and the Beco Holo 35K has Eco and Boost modes with an LED display.
Other picks: Allo Ultra 25K, Boom Box 25K, NASHA 25K and Quizz Pulse Pro 25K.
Ultra-capacity (40,000 puffs and up)
These are for heavy, all-day users who want to buy less often. Most of them use a click-in or reservoir system: a small rechargeable device you vape from, refilled from a larger tank. The Fog Pro X 50-100K pairs a rechargeable 2 mL pod with a 20 mL reservoir and has Normal and Boost modes, while the Allo Ultra 65K uses a 2 mL device with an 18 mL click-in tank and a battery display.
Other picks: Rifbar MixPro 40K, MAGNA MG50 50K and Bazooka X3 60K.
Picking a flavour
Flavour names are easier to read once you know the pattern. "Ice" means a cooling hit on top of the main flavour - great on a hot day, a bit much for some people in winter. Mint and spearmint flavours are cooling on their own. If you're moving over from smoking, a tobacco flavour like the Tobacco option on the Elf Bar AF12000 or Iced Tobacco on the Allo Ultra 65K is a familiar place to start.
Not sure? Buy a small device in a new flavour before committing to a 50K one. Nothing's worse than 50,000 puffs of a flavour you don't like.
Quick tips
- Charge with a proper USB-C cable and don't leave a device charging overnight on a bed or couch.
- Keep vapes out of a hot car - heat is hard on batteries and e-liquid.
- A burnt taste with a full tank usually means the coil is done or you're pulling faster than it can wick. Slow down for a few puffs first.
- Boost mode tastes stronger but drains the battery and e-liquid faster.
- If you vape a lot, compare refillable devices too - our refillable vapes and pod systems can work out cheaper over time.
